Simon Cowell opens up and defends 1D recent leaked video saying ” they haven’t lost the plot , they’re not monsters”.

Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson were both caught on camera last month appearing to smoke a joint which isn’t that horrendous as Liam Payne tweets ” that’s what twenty year olds do”. Harry Styles , Niall Horan and Liam Payne were not involved in the video.

But addressing this situation as a ‘private matter’, says Simon Cowell who helped form the band on The X Factor back in 2010, insists they haven’t ‘turned into horrible people’ and admitted he’d hate fans to think badly of them.

And sticking up for the fivesome further, he added: ‘Right now we’ve just got to celebrate the fact that in just three years they’re performing at Wembley Stadium, which is mind-blowing.’

Speaking to Jo Whiley on her BBC Radio 2 show, he said: ‘Obviously it’s a private matter for me to deal with. But all I can say, from my own experience with the boys, is that I have worked with artists who have a few hits and they can turn into monsters, this lot haven’t – they’re amazingly nice boys.’

Appearing to empathise with the group, who are currently on their Where We Are world tour, he said: ‘It’s very difficult, because when they’re in the situation they’re in, where literally the whole world wants them to perform, it’s very difficult to turn it down – it’s a tough job.’

This wasn’t the first time Cowell addressed the leaked video, filmed during the Peru leg of their tour. He admitted he was hopeful fans would stay loyal last week when quizzed on the subject.
